Where to call
- Free and confidential, Manitoba's Gambling Helpline answers at 1-800-463-1554 at every hour, on all 7 days. It is run by Shared Health, formerly the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, which also offers free counselling.
- The Hope for Wellness Helpline offers support to Indigenous people across Canada, 24/7, at 1-855-242-3310 or online.
- Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries runs Voluntary Self-Exclusion for the Casinos of Winnipeg, Shark Club Gaming Centre and PlayNow.com. First Nations casinos run their own programmes, and South Beach Casino & Resort publishes no self-exclusion details on its pages.
Before the trip
Setting a limit for the night
Before leaving the city, decide how much time and money the night at the casino will take, and stop there. Keep the room key and the return plan apart from the casino budget. The resort's own pages carry the line "BET WITH YOUR HEAD, NOT OVER IT!" with a link to provincial gambling help. In Manitoba, nobody under 18 may take part in provincial gaming. Anyone who appears to be a minor must show ID that proves their age.

About the First Light desk
The First Light desk writes Scanterbury at First Light and signs it under that one shared name. Behind the name stands a group, not a single person, and no page bears an individual byline. Scanterbury at First Light is independent: not a casino, not the resort's website, with no bets taken and no accounts kept.
Across the guide, seven of eight pictures are generated images that look like photographs, with nobody in them. Three were made from real photographs of the resort, each with its own angle, hour and light. They show the hotel tower at sunrise, the entrance at blue hour, and chicken strips with onion rings and pizza. Four show no particular place: the lake at dawn, the highway, a hotel bed, a coffee and muffin. A real photograph by Travel Manitoba shows the front entrance on the resort page, under CC BY 2.0 on Wikimedia Commons, detailed under Image sources further down.
Every fact was checked on October 14, 2026, using the resort's own pages, the LGCA, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, Shared Health and OpenStreetMap. Distances follow straight lines drawn between map coordinates rather than roads, which run longer.
Colour theme and tool preferences may sit in browser storage; calculator figures never leave it. Cookie-free page counts go to a separate analytics tool, with your IP address and browser. It offers no forms, no comment space and no accounts.
